BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday asked godman Nithyananda to file a fresh criminal petition as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had filed a charge-sheet against him and several others.
Justice C.R. Kumaraswamy made the suggestion when he was hearing petitions by Nithyananda and others seeking to quash the First Information Report (FIR) and further proceedings against him.
The Bidadi police had initially received a complaint about Nithyananda and some of his supporters. Subsequently, the case was being investigated by the CID. During the course of the investigation, the CID had filed a charge-sheet against Nithyananda and several of his disciples.
The charge-sheet filed before the Ramanagaram Chief Judicial Magistrate on November 27, 2010 names Nithyananda and his disciples, Nithya Bhaktananda, Nithya Sachidananda, Nithya Sachidananda and Maa Sachidananda alias Ragini.
When the case came up on Monday, Justice Kumaraswamy observed that a charge-sheet had been filed in court and suggested that Nithyananda could file a fresh criminal petition as the present one has become infructuous.
Nithyananda's advocate sought time to consult his client. The court adjourned the petition to Wednesday.
