KUALA LUMPUR: A religious centre here which promotes the teachings of tainted Indian spiritual guru Swami Paramahamsa Nithyananda, who is allegedly involved in a sex scandal, has ceased its operations.
"We made the decision to stop operations for a while following advice from the Malaysia Hindu Sangam," the centre's spokesman was quoted in the local media as saying after the centre was flooded with calls from followers since the guru's alleged involvement in the scandal broke out in India.
Nithyananda landed in trouble following the telecast of video footage by a South Indian television channel allegedly showing him in a compromising position with a Tamil actress.
The spokesman said the ashram, set up two years ago, in Taman Desa Gombak was the only centre in Malaysia to promote the teachings of Nithyananda.
"We do not have the exact number of devotees in Malaysia or healing centres. I believe there are about 400 healers in the country," the local Star newspaper quoted him as saying.
Chennai police has registered a rape and cheating case against Nityananda after video footage of his alleged sleazy acts were telecast by TV channels.
Nityananda's ashram in India has said that he would make a public appearance soon and answer all allegations.

Mar 8, 2010: A CD with a recording of Nithyananda speaking was issued to media houses by the godman’s attorney M Shreedhar on Sunday in which the ‘Swami’ claimed he is collecting facts to prove that the allegations and rumours about him were false and he will come out with the truth very soon.
“The video clips that appeared on television channels are fake and it was the work of miscreants who wanted to defame me and my establishment,” Nithyananda said and added: “We are in the process of collecting evidence on the persons behind the false video footage. Very soon the truth will be unearthed and I will come before the media with necessary evidence.”
Advocate Shreedhar said the video clips had been morphed and added that Swami Nithyananda was now in Varanasi attending the Kumbh Mela. “We are ready to face the case legally and will prove Swamiji’s innocence. We would apply for anticipatory bail once the FIR is filed in the court.”
On Saturday, Nithya Dharmananda alias Lenin Karuppan, former aide to Nithyananda, owned up having shot the alleged sexual acts of his former Guru and distributing the tape to the media. He appeared before Chennai Police Commissioner T Rajendran lodged a complant against Nithyananda.
He claimed he had shot the scenes of Nityananda in a compromising position with an actress and distributed the tape to the media to bring to light the ‘original face of the Swamiji.” He alleged that Nithyananda sexually exploited devotees.

Nithyananda claimed that he had done nothing illegal
Self-styled Godman Swami Nithyananda, who was in an eye of storm after having been caught in camera in a compromising position with a Tamil film actress, today claimed that he had done nothing illegal, even as special teams fanned out to several states to find the whereabouts of the Swamiji.

Speaking in a VCD, sent through his lawyer, the Godman, without going into the specifics of the controversy surrounding his sleazy acts, said neither he nor the Ashram run by him had committed any wrong doing.
”Neither I nor the Ashram had done anything illegal,” he said, speaking in Tamil in the CD, without confirming or denying his sleazy acts.
The VCDs, sent by the Godman from an undislcosed destination, to the Ashram lawyer, were circulated to a section of the media today.
The contents of the speech were telecast by a private Tamil Satellite Channel which had beamed the pictures of the Godman with the actress.
He said he was in the process of collecting details and truth with regard to the charges and allegations levelled against him.
Observing that he would face them legally, the Godman said he would soon place the entire truth before the public after collecting all necessary details and evidence.
The Godman’s statement comes a day after his former aide Nithya Dharmananda alias Lenin Karuppan, owned up having shot the sexual acts of his former Guru and distributed them to the media. He had claimed that he had shot the scenes of Nityananda in a compromising position with the actress with the help of the Ashram inmates in Bangalore and distributed the tape to the media to save the lives of young women devotees.
The former aide listed a slew of complaints against the ”Spiritual Guru” and alleged that Swami Nityananda, claiming himself as an ‘Avtar’ of Lord Krishna, had sexually exploited the women devotees, describing them as Gopikas.

Acting on reports that the Swamiji was reportedly staying in his Ashram in Palakkad, a team had been sent there to confirm the veracity of the reports, though the Ashram officials maintained that the Godman was participating in Khumbh Mela in North India.
Police sources said of the six cases registered against the Godman, five cases would be transferred to Bengaluru and the one pertaining to holding out murder threat to his former disciple Nithya Dharmananda, for filming the sleazy acts, would be probed by the City police.
After the probe, a report would be sent to the Bangalore police for further action.

Nithyananda claimed that he had done nothing illegal
Self-styled Godman Swami Nithyananda, who was in an eye of storm after having been caught in camera in a compromising position with a Tamil film actress, today claimed that he had done nothing illegal, even as special teams fanned out to several states to find the whereabouts of the Swamiji.

Speaking in a VCD, sent through his lawyer, the Godman, without going into the specifics of the controversy surrounding his sleazy acts, said neither he nor the Ashram run by him had committed any wrong doing.
”Neither I nor the Ashram had done anything illegal,” he said, speaking in Tamil in the CD, without confirming or denying his sleazy acts.
The VCDs, sent by the Godman from an undislcosed destination, to the Ashram lawyer, were circulated to a section of the media today.
The contents of the speech were telecast by a private Tamil Satellite Channel which had beamed the pictures of the Godman with the actress.
He said he was in the process of collecting details and truth with regard to the charges and allegations levelled against him.
Observing that he would face them legally, the Godman said he would soon place the entire truth before the public after collecting all necessary details and evidence.
The Godman’s statement comes a day after his former aide Nithya Dharmananda alias Lenin Karuppan, owned up having shot the sexual acts of his former Guru and distributed them to the media. He had claimed that he had shot the scenes of Nityananda in a compromising position with the actress with the help of the Ashram inmates in Bangalore and distributed the tape to the media to save the lives of young women devotees.
The former aide listed a slew of complaints against the ”Spiritual Guru” and alleged that Swami Nityananda, claiming himself as an ‘Avtar’ of Lord Krishna, had sexually exploited the women devotees, describing them as Gopikas.

A spokesman for Nithyananda Swami said he was at the Kumbh Mela festival and would soon "clear the air".
In a video released on Sunday, the guru said he had done nothing illegal and the scandal was "a false campaign".
His ashram near the southern city of Bangalore was vandalised last week after TV channels broadcast the video.

In a message on his official website on Sunday, the guru asked his followers to remain calm and patient.
"I assure all of you that nothing illegal has been done by me or my organisation. We are in the process of collecting evidence to establish this lie and the motive behind this false campaign," he said.
Swamiji, as he is known to his followers, said he would soon provide an explanation and answer all their queries.
"There is total transparency at the ashram and all allegations of illegal activity are baseless and motivated," ashram spokesman Satichandananda told a press conference on Monday.
Meanwhile, cases have been filed against the holy man in the southern city of Madras (Chennai) for "outraging the people's religious sentiments".
The guru's followers allege the video was created and distributed by a jealous resident of the ashram in a bid to defame him.
Last week the ashram called the footage "a mix of conspiracy, graphics and rumours".
Nithyananda Swami has a huge following in southern India and the video shocked his devotees and angered locals.

Bangalore: Swami Paramahamsa Nithyananda, who is in the eye of a controversy after video clippings allegedly showing him and a Tamil actress in compromising positions were aired on TV channels, made a sudden appearance, on the web though, and protested his innocence, claiming that he and his organisations had done “nothing illegal”.
The godman, who the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka police said was absconding, appealed to “one and all” not to come to any conclusion based on the allegations made against him.
In his video statement, posted on his website http://dhyanapeetam.org on Sunday morning, Swami Nithyananda invoked the blessings of Lord Shiva and said: “Dear one and all, there have been many allegations against me and my organisations in the recent days. But, at the same time, I have received a flood of supporting emails, testimonials and letters from devotees and well wishers from all over the world, who have benefited from my teachings, over the years. They were all shocked to hear these allegations.”
“I want to assure you all that nothing illegal has been done by me or my organisations. We are in the process of collecting evidence to establish the falsity and motive of this campaign against me. I will address all the allegations and issue a detailed explanation. Meanwhile, I urge everyone not to rush to any judgment before all the facts have been put on the table and carefully examined.

Ranjitha, who recently got alleged with Swami Nithyananda in a sex scandal, is said to have attempted for a suicide. The scandal video was aired by the popular Tamil channel Sun TV on March 2. No news of either of the two was known thereafter. People were so angry and desperate that they attacked the ashrams of Swamiji.

Later she became too close to Nithyananda that she made her presence all the time in the ashram. Buzz is also that the video was created by Ranjitha herself to blackmail Nithyananda. She wanted a married life with Nithyananda and is said that this possessiveness made her to trap Nithyananda.
Ranjitha was introduced to him three years back by actress K R Vijaya's niece Sudha, a full-time devotee. Later on Swami's charm made her fall for him and she even decided to shift base from Chennai to Bangalore. After getting intimate with Swami, she is said to have asked him to marry her and even got a positive response. Later he was worried about the property worth several hundred crore rupees that he would have to give up. Lenin Karuppa also attempted to blackmail Swamiji but he failed. So it is said that both have planned together to trap Swami Nithyananda.
By the time Nithyananda's lawyer confirmed that Nithyananda is in Varanasi attending Kumbha Mela with his 4000 devotees. He is to return back on March 18. He also claimed that the woman in the video has covered her neck and that Nithyananda's face is a morphed one.

He said that all that is talked about is mere speculation and that Nithyananda wants to come to light to speak on the issue. “I have not committed any crime,” Swami Nithyananda claimed on Sunday, in his first public response to the video CD showing him in a compromising position with an actress.
Addressing his devotees in a five-minute VCD, copies of which were distributed to the media by his lawyer here, the Swami alleged that calumnies and rumours were being spread against him and the ‘Gnanapeetam’.
“While I am receiving email, phone calls and letters from devotees and friends, expressing their support and affection, I can see that they are worried and concerned,” he said.
Beginning his speech with an incantation, the swami - who was in his trademark ochre robe and turban - claimed that neither he nor the ‘Gnanapeetam’ had committed any crime.
Nityananda said he and his associates were in the process of gathering all information about the charges and rumours, the motive and mindset that were operating them and the actual facts.
Appealing to his devotees to remain calm and patient, he said he would soon come out with explanation and answers to all their queries. He asked them not to draw any hasty conclusions from the rumours and reiterated that he would open his heart to them in a few days.
