Malaysia Hindu Sangam (MHS) President R.S. Mohan Shan has said that even if Indian spiritual guru Swami Paramahamsa Nithyananda is found guilty of being involved in a sex scandal, his ashram in Kuala Lumpur will not be asked to closed down.

The Star Online quoted Mohan Shan as saying that this was because the guru's teachings were not against Hinduism.

"If the case is proven against Swami Nithyananda, we will just advise the centre to change its name and continue its activities which are in accordance with the religion," he said.

Mohan Shan added that the ashram was awaiting confirmation and further details from one of the main atheenams in India.

Atheenam is an institution where spiritual leaders gather to discuss all aspects related to Hinduism.

"So far, we have not received any information and therefore, we are not in a position to issue any directive for the time being," he said.

Nithyananda landed in trouble after a private Indian TV channel showed him in a compromising position with a Tamil actress. (ANI)
