March 3: A city civil court on Wednesday ordered notice to a Tamil private satellite channel, two Tamil newspapers and a bi-weekly on a petition seeking to restrain them from telecasting or publishing any video clippings or articles or photographs about young and popular Swami Nithyananda.
The XV assistant city civil court judge A. Manikavasakar ordered notice to Sun TV, Dinakaran, Tamil Murasu and Nakkeeran and posted to March 8 further hearing of the petition filed by Nithyananda.
Sun TV had on March 2 repeatedly telecast the swami’s alleged bedroom acts with an actress in its channel. Nithyananda, in his petition submitted that he had 45 lakh devotees from 17 countries and that he was conducting free eye and medical camps, besides providing education.
While so, one of the inmates of his mutt, Premananda alias Lenin Karuppan, with an intention to defame his image and destroy beliefs, using information technology had morphed his face and released the video clippings. Following this, some unknown persons had attacked his mutt. The newspapers, the bi-weekly and Sun TV published and telecast the articles and video clippings. Hence, they should be restrained from doing so, he added.

A group of lawyers from Madras high court approached the city police commissionerate on Wednesday and lodged a complaint against Swami Nithyananda, alleging that he had brought disgrace to Tamil culture.
“This outrageous behaviour by Nithyananda has projected Hinduism in bad taste. This obscene act has brought absolute disgrace to Tamil culture. He was cheating scores of people under the pretext of being a Hindu godman just to fulfil his materialistic pleasures,” the advocates said. The group urged the police to initiate criminal proceedings against the Swami.
