Sex CD row fails to dampen Swami Nithyananda's fame, bags maha-mandaleshwar title at Mahakumbh

Ignoring the sex CD of Swami Nithyananda , Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani has bestowed on him the title of maha-mandaleshwar, which is normally given to those saints who are believed to have attained godly qualities.

Other groups of sadhus have strongly objected to the conferment of the highest title on the seer, questioned the procedure followed and said that not all the akharas were consulted.

Better known as "sex-swami" after a sting operation by a TV channel caught him in intimate scenes with a popular Tamil actress at his Dhyanapeetam ashram in Bidadi near Bangaluru in March 2010, the swami had escaped to avoid arrest and was finally nabbed by the police a month later in Arki, Himachal Pradesh. 

Maha mandaleshwar Swami Vishwadevanand Puri, head of Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani, conferred the title on Nithyananda amid chanting of Vedic mantras on Tuesday night and offered him a shawl which is the concluding ceremony of a two-day long ritual.

Maha mandaleshwar Swami Shukhdevanand Puri of Atal Akhara was also present there when the ceremony was organised and he too recognised the "sex-swami" as maha mandaleshwar.  

In return Nithyananda, one of the richest swamis in the world, gave them "secret donations" as guru dakshina.

Justifying the decision, mahant Ravindra Puri said, "There was a complaint since long that we were not honouring the saints of South India. So we decided to give him the highest honour." 

But other akharas have reacted against this decision and said that the dignity of the post of maha mandaleshwar should be preserved.

Mahant Narendra Giri, secretary of Niranjani Akhara, said, "It is wrong to give this revered title to a man who has indulged in sexual activities of a kind which is disapproved by even common men. The case is pending in the court and the people have seen his CD. He is an immoral person in the guise of a sadhu. We are against giving him the title of maha mandaleshwar."

"Nithyananda is not fit for the honour. The pre-condition of such ceremonies is that compete transparency would be observed. But one akhara secretly organised a function in the night and gave him the title of maha mandaleshwar. Such a decision will damage our reputation," he further said.

He explained that the honour is deemed conferred on someone only when the heads of all the akharas offer shawls to him.

"There are eight mahants and eight sub-mahants in each akhara who take crucial decisions. Out of these sixteen revered saints, five are nominated for the ceremony to declare someone maha mandaleshwar. They are called Ramta Panch. But the heads of other 12 akharas are also consulted before the ceremony starts. If they don't attend the function to offer shawl, the title cannot be confirmed. When someone is recognised as maha mandaleshwar, then he is respected by all the akharas and allowed to participate in their rituals as and when he wished," he explained.

Sadhvi Karuna of Juna akhara said, "It is a shame that such a person has become a maha mandaleshwar. The members of all the akharas have decided to hold a meeting soon on this issue."

Nithyananda, who earlier was sacked as the successor of the mutt head of Madurai Aadheenam, a 1500-year-old Saivite mutt, has been made the head of akhara (camp) of sadhus. Nithyananda's promotion as the head of the akhara enraged many who began protesting against the godman demanding his removal from the post. The protesters claimed that Nithyananda can not be awarded the post as he is an accused of many legal cases including one where he along with a popular South Indian actress allegedly was involved in a sex scandal. Earlier pilgrims had opposed Nithyananda's visit to Allahabad where the Maha Kumbh has been held. A section of pilgrims had met district administration and sought to put restrictions on Nithyananda. They were enraged by the fact that a person like Nithyananda could be coming to the holy place considering charges against him. The pilgrims had also expressed their anger about the activities in the Nithyananda pandal. The self-styled godman hogged limelight worldwide for the first time when a video allegedly featuring him along with a South Indian actress in a compromising position went viral on the internet and TV. Soon several rape charges and forgery cases were slapped against him

Documents seized from Madurai Aadheenam

MADURAI: After income tax officials raided the premises of Madurai Aadheenam on Saturday,� sources said that some documents have been seized for investigation. It was not known immediately whether any unaccounted cash was seized. Arunagirinatha Desigar was present during the search, officials of the mutt said. The mutt staff cooperated with the search team, they claimed. Officials of the mutt alleged that the raid was conducted to thwart the scheduled visit of Arunagirinatha Desigar to Tiruvannamalai to participate in the Pattabishekam of Nithyananda scheduled for Saturday evening.

They also alleged that the search was conducted at the behest of a Union minister. They said they expected such raids in Madurai Aadheenam after Nithyananda was anointed as the junior pontiff.

They recalled that such raids were conducted in the Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam in Bidadi, Karnataka. Arunagirinathar, the 292rd pontiff, left for Tiruvannamalai in the afternoon, after the search, to participate in the Pattabishekam.

The Madurai Mutt which has a history of 2,000 years was revived to glory by Tirugnana Sambandar, one of the four Saivite savants. There are several temples under its control including the famous Kanjanur temple in Thanjavur district.

மதுரை: பாலியல் குற்றச் சாட்டு உள்ள நபரை ஆதீனமாக தேர்வு செய்யக்கூடாது என மார்க் சிஸ்ட் மாநில செயலாளர் ராமகிருஷ்ணன் கூறினார். மதுரையில் நேற்று ஜி.ராமகிருஷ் ணன் அளித்த பேட்டி: மாநிலத்தில் சட்டம், ஒழுங்கு சீர்கேட்டை கண்டித்து வரும் 15ம் தேதி முதல் 31ம் தேதி வரை எதிர்ப்பு பிரசாரம் நடைபெறுகிறது. மாநில அரசின் உரிமையை மத்திய அரசு பறிக்கக் கூடாது. இதே போன்று மாநில அரசு, உள்ளாட்சி அமைப்புகளின் உரிமைகளை பறிக்கக் கூடாது. உள்ளாட்சி நிதி ஆதாரத்தை பெருக்குவதற்காக நிதி ஆணையக்குழு அமைக்கப்பட்டு, அதன் அறிக்கை கடந்த செப்டம்பர் மாதம் அரசிடம் தாக்கல் செய்யப்பட்டது. ஆனால், இக்குழுவின் அறிக்கையை தமிழக அரசு சட்டமன்றத்தில் வைக்கவில்லை.

புதுக்கோட்டை இடைத்தேர்தல் தொடர்பாக நாளை சென்னையில் கூடும் மாநில செயற்குழு கூட்டத்தில் முடிவு செய்யப்படும். பொதுவாக தமிழகத்தில் உள்ள மடங்களில் ஆதீனத்தின் வாரிசாக சிறுவயதில் ஒருவரை தேர்வு செய்து, அவருக்கு முறையான பயிற்சி கொடுக்க வேண்டும். அதன் பின் அவர் அந்தப் பதவிக்கு வரமுடியும். ஆனால் மதுரை ஆதீனத்தில் முரண்பாடாக உள்ளது. பாலியல் குற்றச்சாட்டுக்கு உள்ளான ஒருவரை ஆதீனமாக நியமித்து இருப்பதை தவிர்த்து இருக்க வேண்டும். ஒரு ஆண்டுகால அதிமுக ஆட்சியில் மக்களுக்கு கொடுத்ததைவிட மின் கட்டணம், பால் விலை, பஸ் கட்டணம், விலைவாசி உயர்வு மூலம் அவர்களிடமிருந்து பறித்ததுதான் அதிகம். இவ்வாறு ராமகிருஷ்ணன் கூறினார்.

நித்யானந்தா பொறுப்பு ஏற்ற மதுரை ஆதீன மடத்தில் சோதனை: வருமான வரித்துறை அதிரடி நடவடிக்கை

திருஞான சம்பந்தரால் 1,400 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு மதுரை ஆதீனம் மடம் தோற்றுவிக்கப்பட்டது. சைவ சித்தாந்த கொள்கைகளை உலகம் முழுவதும் பரப்பும் நோக்கத்துடன் தொடங்கப்பட்ட இந்த ஆதீனம் பாரம்பரிய சிறப்புக் கொண்டது.

 

மதுரை, விருதுநகர், திருச்சி, திருவாரூர், சிவகங்கை உள்பட பல ஊர்களில் பல ஆயிரம் கோடி சொத்துக்கள் உள்ள மதுரை ஆதீனத்தின் தற்போதைய 292-வது ஆதீனமாக ஸ்ரீஅருணகிரிநாத ஞானசம் பந்த தேசிக பரம்மாச்சார்யா உள்ளார். இவர் கடந்த வாரம் மதுரை ஆதீனத்தின் 293-வது இளைய ஆதீனமாக நித்யானந்தாவுக்கு முடி சூட்டினார்.

 

இது பெரும் சர்ச்சையை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. நித்யானந்தா நியமனத்துக்கு பல்வேறு இந்து அமைப்புகள் எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்து போராட்டம் நடத்தி வருகின்றன. நித்யானந்தாவுக்கு எதிராக சென்னை, மதுரை கோர்ட்டுக்களில் வழக்குகளும் தொடரப்பட்டுள்ளன. நித்யானந்தா ஆபாச சி.டி. புகாரில் சிக்கியவர் என்பதால், அவரை மதுரை ஆதீனத்தின் இளைய ஆதீனமாக தொடர விடக்கூடாது என்பதில் மற்ற ஆதீன தலைவர்கள் தீவிரமாக உள்ளனர்.

 

மதுரை ஆதீனத்தின் பாரம்பரிய பெருமையை காக்க வேண்டுமானால், அந்த ஆதீனத்தை அரசே ஏற்க வேண்டும் என்று கூறி வருகிறார்கள். மதுரை ஆதீனத்தின் கோடிக்கணக்கான சொத்துக்களை நித்யானந்தா நிர்வகிக்க தடை விதிக்க வேண்டும் என்று வலியுறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த சொத்துக்கள் தொடர்பாக அரசுக்கு ஏராளமான புகார்கள் வந்தன.

 

குறிப்பாக மதுரை ஆதீன சொத்துக்கள் மற்றும் வரவு- செலவுகள் பற்றிய குற்றச்சாட்டுக்களும் எழுந்தன. இந்த நிலையில் மதுரை தெற்கு ஆவணி மூல வீதியில் உள்ள மதுரை ஆதீனத்தில் மதுரை மண்டல வருமான வரித்துறை அதிகாரிகள் இன்று திடீரென வருமான வரி சோதனை நடத்தினார்கள். மண்டல இணைக்கமிஷனர் கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி தலைமையில் 5 அதிகாரிகள் குழு இந்த சோதனையை நடத்தியது.

 

வருமான வரித்துறை அதிகாரிகள் சோதனையிட சென்றபோது மதுரை ஆதீனம் ஸ்ரீஅருணகிரிநாத ஞானசம்பந்த தேசிக பரம்மாச்சார்யா மட்டுமே இருந்தார். இளைய ஆதீனம் நித்யானந்தா இல்லை. நித்யானந்தா பெங்களூர் சென்றுவிட்டதால், அவரது சீடர்கள் சிலர் மட்டுமே ஆதீன வளாகத்தில் இருந்தனர். வருமான வரித்துறை அதிகாரிகள், ஆதீனத்தில் இருந்த யாரையும் வெளியில் செல்ல அனுமதிக்கவில்லை.

Kanchi Seer says he does not support Nithyananda

Kancheepuram, May 5 : Adding fuel to the raging controversy over naming self styled Godman Nithyananda as the 293rd Madurai Saivite Mutt head, Seer of the Kanchi Sankara Mutt here, Jayendra Saraswathi, today declared that he did not support the 'appointment'.

The Kanchi Seer's statement against the 'coronation' of Nithyananda as the new Saivite Mutt head in the temple town of Madurai came in the wake of the latter's statement that he had the support of Sankara mutt. On May 1 a congregation of various mutt heads at a well known Arts college in Nagapattanam, had disapproved of the controversial and allegedly tainted Nithyananda as the Madurai Savite Mutt head.

They had also demanded that if the decision to coronate Nithyananda as the Madurai Saivite mutt head, they would initiate legal action against the 292nd Mutt head, who had decided to make Nithyananda his successor. Reacting to this Nithyananda in a press conference had claimed that he had the support of Kanchi mutt head, Ravisankar Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal and a few leader of political parties as well as prominent personalities in the society.

However, dealing a blow to Nithyananda's statement, Kanchi Sankara mutt head Jayendra Saraswathi categorically stated that he did not support Nithyananda ss the new Saivite mutt head in Madurai. He also clarified that the Sankara mutt had no role in the appointment of Nithyananda.

However, the Kanchi mutt said he did not support the coronation. It may be recalled that Swamy Nithyananda had got into a controversy when a sleaze video tape showing him in compromising position with a Tamil actreess, who was his devotee, was shown on some private television channels in 2010.

13 mutt heads oppose Nithyananda

NAGAPATTINAM: Heads of various Saivaite mutts in Tamil Nadu have urged Sri Arunagirinatha Swamigal to reconsider the appointment of controversial godman Nithya­nanda as the 293rd head of the 1,500-year old Madurai Adheenam.

Heads of 13 important Saivaite mutts, who met at Dharmapuram in Mayiladuthurai on Tuesday, held discussions in this regard. Dharmapuram Adheenam Guru Maha Sannidhanam Sri Shanmuga Desiga Paramarcharya Swamigal presided over the meeting.

During the meeting the members urged the present head of Madurai Adheenam to reconsider the decision of appointing Nithyananda as the Madurai Adheenam pontiff within 10 days. 
“If the Adheenam sticks to his decision, we will be forced to seek legal recourse, besides requesting the intervention of the Tamil Nadu government as this decision by the Madurai Adheenam head is against the norms, tradition and rituals of Saivaite mutts,” said Ooran Adigal, who explained the resolutions passed at the meeting of the pontiffs.

Those who attended the meeting, included Thiruvavaduthurai Adheenam, Thiruvannamalai-Kundrakudi Adheenam, Suriyanarkoil Adheenam, Thirupanandal Adheenam, Senkol Adheenam, Thuzhavoor Adheenam, Velakurichi Adheenam, Kamakshipuri Adheenam, Ooran Adigal and Chidambaram Mouna Mada Swamigal.

Edward J Primeau’s Report on Nithyananda tape is farfetched

The noted Indian Forensic Expert Padma Bhushan Prof Dr P Chandra Sekharanhas commented that “the expert opinion of the American Audio Forensic Expert Edward J Primeau on Nithyananda tape is farfetched” in as much as he could not have had access to the original tape. The original video in tape was made by Nithyananda’s driver Lenin Karuppan aka Dharmananda. This tape only can technically be called original or genuine. All the other copies made out in compact discs (CD) are only duplicates and many multi generated CDs were prepared from the first generation CD. “The electronic gadgets the experts use to examine these CDs will certainly show signs of editing and other inherent defects of reproduction” says Prof Sekharan.

Edward was right in saying that the video he had examined (obviously in CDs) are not genuine and authentic. But he has exceeded his limit and passed judgement by saying that ‘the video to be excluded from any factual relevance to the events that appear to be happening’. Wherefrom then the events appear? From wilderness! An expert cannot make inferences. In fact according to Edward’s very own words, I quote “Many times the video evidence being submitted in litigation is good as a standalone exhibit and a video forensic expert is not needed. It is mostly the defense that is guilty of wasting money and complicating a case”. It is indeed very sure that the ‘American Expert as well as our CFSL have examined two different evidence materials and not the same one in this case’ asserts Prof Sekharan

This is a great program on Vijay TV about the facts regarding the Nithyananda scandal video.

Nithyananda gave a press meet in Chennai on 15th March, and claimed he has forensic reports that claim the video is edited. A nationally renowned Forensic Expert, Padma Bhushan Prof. Dr. P. Chandra Sekharan states very clearly that he examined the video and found no editing or morphing in it.

Dr. Chandra Sekharan is a renowned forensic expert, who was consulted in a criminal caseregarding a movie allegedly involving "Miss Jammu Kashmir". In that case, alleged porn movie had received conflicting opinions from 2 different forensic labs. To resolve the confusion, Dr. Chandra Sekharan was consulted and he confirmed that the video was doctored. Based on his video authentication as a forensic expert, she was acquitted.

Dr. Chandra Sekharan categorically denies any editing, altering or morphing of the scandal video and confirms it is authentic, contrary to Nithyananda's claims. He also further stated (in another interview) that "the videos that Nithyananda gave for testing in the US may have been edited, certainly the video tested by US experts and the CID are not the same".

There are a few minor mistakes to be noted: Vijay TV anchor Mr. Gopinath says Nithyananda's biography and states that he wandered length and breadth of India for 5 years. Please note - that is what "Nithyananda claims". But there are published information that Nithyananda was in Ramakrishna Mutt during those 5 years, which means he never really wandered!!

CID gets proof to nail Swami Nithyananda

CID officials have said they have more incriminating evidence to prove that Swami Nithyananda indulged in sex with his devotees. Based on this evidence, the CID has filed an additional chargesheet against him. The first chargesheet was filed on July 25, 2010, in Ramnagaram court. A former disciple, Lenin Karuppan, had recorded a phone conversation with Nithyananda, wherein the latter spoke about his sexual encounters. The CID said a recording of the conversation was sent to the experts, who concluded the voice was indeed Nithyananda’s. Officials said they had a certificate from experts in this regard. Also, forensic science department has come to the conclusion that a confidante of Nithyananda was instrumental in convincing devotees to have sex with him. When the CID raided Nithyananda’s ashram, it found non-disclosure agreements, prohibiting the signatories from disclosing the ‘contents of the spiritual course’. On behalf of Nithyananda’s ashram, a trustee, Jamuna Rani, signed the agreements. She had contended that the signatures were not hers. However, experts at Forensic Science Lab, Hyderabad, studied her signature and concluded that she had signed on the paper. CID DG RK Datta said that based on forensic reports, the CID booked Rani on charges of abetting devotees to have sex with Nithyananda. A former devottee now settled in US has lodged a complaint

There is some more bad news for Nithyananda alias A Rajasekhara.

The Karnataka CID on Wednesday filed an additional charge sheet in the Ramanagaram court, claiming that besides several women, Nithyananda forced a man to have sex with him on a number of occasions both at his Bidadi ashram near here as well as in some cities in the US.

Director General, CID, R K Dutta told Deccan Herald that “evidence has emerged that Nithyananda was indulging in unnatural sex.”

The man, whose identity is not being revealed, complained to the State CID some time ago over Skype and his statement was video-recorded after due permission from the court. He is now a resident of Seattle in the US.

This is the first time a male devotee has come forward to lodge a complaint against Nithyananda against whom the first charge sheet was filed by the police after his arrest in Solon, Himachal Pradesh, where he had fled to when a secretly filmed sex video of him was shown by television news channels in Chennai and Bangalore.

In his complaint, the former Nithyananda devotee has given graphic accounts of how his so-called preceptor forced him into “unnatural sex” at least on six occasions at the Bidadi ashram as well as a number of times in Seattle and some other US cities. Police sources said these sexual acts were punishable under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.

As part of the additional charge sheet, the CID has enclosed the statement of a US-based clinical psychiatrist who has alleged that when Nithyananda was on the run, he had admitted that he has had sex with several women. The psychiatrist was very well known to Nithyananda and had tried to get to the bottom of the controversy created after the sex video went public.

In pursuance of its original case against Nithyananda, the CID has made Jamuna Rani, the wife of his secretary A Sadhananda, alias Aiyya, a co-accused. 

The charge against Jamuna Rani is that she wilfully signed on behalf of Nithyananda on the infamous non-disclosure agreement that bound his devotees to silence over the various sexual acts, including tantra sex, he forced them into at his Bidadi ashram.

The CID also notified the court that despite several notices to Nithyananda to appear for medical/physical examination, he did not appear before the police which, according to a source, proved mens rea or “guilty mind”.

Despite several attempts to reach him over the phone, there was no response from Nithyananda’s lawyer C V Nagesh.

Nithyananda's ex-aide surrenders

CHENNAI: Lenin Karuppan surrendered before CB-CID sleuths on Wednesday. The CB-CID registered a case against Lenin Karuppan, a former aide of Nithyananda, after Nithya Athmaprabhananda, manager of Nithyananda's ashram, complained that Lenin had demanded crores of rupees to keep the tapes a secret. 

Lenin, who was brought before CB-CID officials by his lawyer Sumathi, was taken into custody by deputy superintendent of police Barani Kumar, who is investigating the case, and interrogated. "After conducting a detailed interrogation, if needed, we will arrest Lenin," inspector general of police (CB-CID) Manjunatha said. 

Police, however, refused to divulge the information revealed by Lenin during his interrogation. On July13, 2011, Nithya Atmaprabhananda, a devotee of Nithyananda and manager of his ashram, filed a complaint with the Chennai police commissioner against the then Sun Network chief operating officer Hansraj Saxena, his assistant Iyyappan, 'Nakkheeran' Gopal and Kamraj, Lenin Karuppan, his brother Kumar and some others, levelling charges of extortion, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy, etc., in connection with the release of the video. 

Lenin Karuppan and his brother Kumar filed anticipatory bail petitions that were rejected by the sessions court concerned in Chennai. They moved the Madras high court on September 6, 2011 for anticipatory bail but were again refused bail. Four days later, Hansraj Saxena and Iyyappan were arrested and taken into judicial custody.

Nithyananda whistleblower surrenders to CID’s crime branch in TN

In a sudden, yet significant development, Lenin Karuppan, the whistleblower who exposed Bidadi-based Nithyananda in March 2010, surrendered before the state CID’s Crime Branch in Chennai on Wednesday.

Police said that Lenin appeared at the CB-CID headquarters in Guindy and presented himself to the police authorities. He was accompanied by his advocate. 

The “whistle-blower” also faces charges of leaking the sleazy video tape featuring Nithyananda and his woman disciple at their ashram in Bidadi near Bangalore.

Ranjitha later denied any such involvement with him and claimed it was a morphed picture to defame her and the “spiritual guru”. The tapes created a sensation when it was shown on a particular Tamil TV news channel in March 2010. Subsequently, the Karnataka CID arrested Nithyananda in Solan, Himachal Pradesh.

Lenin was wanted by the CB-CID in connection with a complaint filed by Nithyananda that he had threatened him and asked for money over the video tapes last year. 

Lenin, however, has denied the allegations, claiming that Nithyananda wanted to get even with him by filing “false cases”.
